Reiki Energy
I was introduced to the practice of Reiki several years ago when I was on my own path of spiritual growth. If you would have asked me even 5 or 6 years ago if I would be practicing energy work, I probably would have laughed and responded with a resounding “no.” Sometimes finding a spiritual path that resonates with you is a slow unfolding awakening and sometimes it’s much like a smack in the back of the head. Mine was much like the latter. I found myself in a crisis of faith and through a series of events which I now believe were not merely luck or happenstance, found myself at the doorstep of Sacred Garden Yoga and Cindy Olah. She patiently and lovingly guided me towards my own magick and power which continues to unfold and grow now.
Reiki energy is one of the practices I continue to explore and grow. The practice of Reiki (roughly translated to universal life force energy) originated in Japan with founder Usui Mikao and at its core, is a practice of transferring energy. I received a series of attunements awakening myself as a conduit of sorts and studied basic tenets of Reiki which include release of anger and worry, practicing gratitude, mindfulness, and kindness. I learned to allow energy to flow through me so as to create conditions for others to shift and release stored negative energy. Reiki involves a series of hand positions and through my attunements, I work to create conditions that promote physical, emotional, and ancestral healing.
In practice, a Reiki session takes 45-60 minutes and in my energy sessions, I strive to create a quiet peaceful space to go inwards. Very often, trauma gets stored in our bodies and Reiki is one way to shift and move that trauma. I believe it is a wonderful companion to EMDR work and it can be a vehicle to move towards embodiment and facilitate a closer mind body connection. It’s a bit different to offer a hands-on approach as a part of a counseling practice, but I believe it is one path of many towards healing.
I invite you, even if you are a bit skeptical, to open yourself to the possibility of Reiki and a larger spiritual practice that expands your awareness of your own energy and power. Once you start to allow curiosity and dismiss your inner skeptic for even a few moments, you might surprise yourself with the answers and the wellspring of joy that begins.
Peace to you wherever you find yourself on your journey,
Cassie
