Mickie Pettigrew, ATR, LPC
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design and a Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. I wholeheartedly believes in the power of art to create a path toward growth, leading to transformation and healing. I’ve always believed in the power of art to guide us through healing and growth even at a young age. Art has a unique ability to help us express what words sometimes can’t—it can build creative coping tools, help process and integrate trauma, reframe our personal stories, break free from old patterns, and spark resilience and hope.
In my work, I often use metaphor and symbolism through different art materials and imagery to help clients explore how their struggles can transform into strength and wellness. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals across all ages, but I especially enjoy supporting children, teens, and young adults as they navigate developmental milestones, healing from traumas, identity exploration, social challenges, and life transitions.
I also have a strong passion for working with at-risk youth and families in their communities, providing a safe, supportive space to work through things like anger, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and social skill difficulties. In previous roles, I’ve worked in inpatient mental health settings with individuals experiencing psychosis and crisis. During that time, I focused on helping clients develop positive coping skills and manage stress through creative expression to improve their overall quality of life. As a School-Based Mental Health Therapist, I saw firsthand how challenges at school, home, or socially can impact a student’s mental health. I approach behavioral issues, neurodivergence, and underperformance with compassion, curiosity, and a focus on making supportive changes within both the school and home environments.
These experiences have shaped my approach as a therapist—I show up with compassion, creativity, and a commitment to meeting you where you are. Whether we’re using art, talking things through, or just sitting with what is, we’ll take the journey together.
