Sometimes It Is Just That Simple

The last few months, I’ve had some real moments of exhaustion and irritability.  As a therapist, I can be guilty of plumbing the depths a bit too much and analyzing both myself and people I love.  It’s a hazard of the job so they say!  So I’ve been tuning in and examining my beliefs, attachment patterns, and really just working myself into self-analysis paralysis frenzy😊.

As it turns out, after much digging, I haven’t been doing the absolute most basic thing of eating well.  Duh.  My breakfast routine had become grab and go, often a sugar-filled pastry or granola bar or nothing at all but coffee.  I added back in a shelved habit of mine making my green smoothie in the mornings, and voila, I am a new lady.  I’ve had a noticeable difference in my fatigue and mood with a small habit change.

Of course it isn’t really that easy all of the time.  And I’m not suggesting the real raw experiences of being human in the era of end stage capitalism and the loneliness epidemic are not challenging and don’t need our attention and care.  Trauma is real and healing is a complicated and multi-pronged process.  But sometimes we are our own worst enemies.  We seek expensive therapy and all the latest journals and self-help books when what we really need is basic behavioral change.  So, with the risk of many an eyeroll, here are a few very simple reminders today: drink water, move your body, eat fruits and vegetables, and put down your damn phone and go to bed 😊.  And Aloft will be right here to help you with all the complications along the way.

And just in case you’d like my magic green smoothie recipe, here you go!

Ingredients:

About a cup of frozen fruit, I use Wyman’s cherry berry kale

1 to 1 ½ cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

A scoop of Superfoods and Greens powder (I use Sprouts brand)

A scoop of collagen

About 2 tablespoons unsweetened almond or coconut yogurt

1-2 tablespoons of unsweetened almond or peanut butter

Any tinctures or drops you’d like to add!  I love to add a Bach’s flower remedy and elderberry drops

Directions:

Add it all to a blender and blend away!  Add more almond milk as needed if your smoothie is too thick!

Added bonus: add a mantra and intention for the day as you blend 😊

Peace to you on your journey,

Cassie
